Superpink Joins the Fray

Gwen informed me recently that Kitty Cat Diamond’s best sidekick friend is named “Superpink.” This is great, as everyone needs a sidekick!

Gwen also told me that Sailor Moon and Scout are good friends of Kitty Cat Diamond. However, you won’t see any of them in our work here, since those aren’t original superheroes.

Elektra

We watched the movie spinoff “Elektra” last night. The movie was not spectacular, by any means. The ending was like many of these comic book movies: It dragged on and on. You would think superhero writers would understand the importance of a “final punch,” but I guess not.

That being said, the movie was good research material for Kitty Cat Diamond. The young girl Elektra is trying to save in this movie, “Abby,” goes through some of the initial confusion and disbelief that we think Kitty Cat Diamond will experience in her second episode.

I looked up Electra on Wikipedia, and I’m kind of miffed. First, she turns out to be a “skrull,” which is just crazy. Second, I notice that in general, Marvel comics has all these different parallel universes going on, so that if you want your superhero to be good, evil, dead, alive, whatever — there is probably a universe where that’s the truth. As far as storytelling goes, I think this is terrible. I know this is comic storytelling, so it’s not supposed to be literature, it’s not supposed to parallel life. However, isn’t it enough for these people to have super powers? Why do they get to have all these alternative lives?

The answer is of course $$$ so Marvel can milk the characters. That’s sad, but I suppose it’s the truth.

Kitty Cat Diamond will not have any alternative storylines or universes and such, I promise.

Elektra espresso

Finally, I don’t want anyone to get confused by this article and think I am talking about an Elektra espresso machine.

Atomic Betty rocks

While doing some child superhero research, we got an Atomic Betty DVD from Netflix. The first episode was kind of lame, but then they picked up a bit.

I must say, we received a big scare when we saw Betty’s cat get sucked up with her in a transporter beam! (Episode: “But the Cat Came Back!”) Not to reveal too much, but that is a key element in Kitty Cat Diamond’s “Genesis” episode, regarding how she became a superhero! It turned out to be a totally different situation, but the imagery was similar enough to make us freak for a bit.

Kitty Cat Diamond Status
Progress is happening, albeit behind the scenes, and you’ll be seeing stills of Kitty Cat Diamond in action soon. Compared to Atomic Betty, Kitty Cat Diamond will be a bit more serious.

The scoop is in on Kitty Cat Diamond. While collaborating creatively with a four year old can be grueling, we have come up with an excellent story. Dad’s working on drawings now for the first episode, and mom’s brewing up some costume plans.

Don’t worry, the day will come when you can visit here daily to get your dose of the Kitty Cat Diamond comics! And animations! Woohoo!
